Anne of Austria was born on September 22, 1601, in the Spanish court of Valladolid as the daughter of King Philip III of Spain and Queen Margaret of Austria. She was married to King Louis XIII of France in 1615.
Anne became the queen consort of France in 1615, and she remained so until her husband's death in 1643. During her time as queen, she wielded significant political influence and played an essential role in ending the Thirty Years' War, with the Treaty of Westphalia.
After her husband's death, Anne served as the regent of France until her son Louis XIV came of age in 1651. She was a skilled diplomat, and her diplomatic efforts ensured peace between France and Spain during her regency.
Anne died on January 20, 1666, at the age of 64, and she was buried in the Basilica of Saint-Denis in Paris. She is remembered as a powerful and influential queen who played a critical role in shaping the course of French history during the seventeenth century.
